12 Symbols of Fall Harvest and Thanksgiving

When fall is coming, we know the harvest time and thanksgiving day are also fast approaching. People are starting to prepare to gather their crops from thee fields and plan to celebrate and give thanks for the abundance that has been received.

Decorations at home, offices and business establishments are also being planned. Display at retail stores are also in lined with the season.

To help you what put on you coming window display and decorations, there are the list of iconic things for harvest and thanksgiving day.

 1. Autumn Leaves — Harvest weather brings bout a change in the leaves. You can’t help but notice that the leaves are changing colors and that they will soon fall. One fun activity to do in the fall is to rake up the leaves and jump into them. However, you will find jumping into them just makes it so you have to rake them all up again. It’s so much fun!

2. Beans — Native Americans taught the pilgrims to grow beans next to the cornstalks. This was done so that the beans could use those cornstalks as their pole to grow. That was how the term “pole beans” was derived too. Hence, beans were always made part of the Thanksgiving feast for Americans.

3. Black Hats With Buckles — This actually represents the pilgrims for the very first Thanksgiving feast that was held. At some places, these symbols may be accompanied by little pilgrims statues as well as little Native Americans statues gathered round a table of food. These statues actually represents friendship, fellowship and appreciation of one another amid any differences that may occur.

4. Corn — Native Americans were known to have been growing and harvesting corn long before the pilgrims arrived in their country. These Americans taught them how to grow corn and thus allowed them to survive throughout the winter season. There were many variants of corn being grown then with the first corn was believed to be grown 7000 years ago in Mexico. Hence, corn was indeed part of the first thanksgiving dinner celebrated back then. The tradition continues till today and thus, corn has always been served on Thanksgiving Day.

 5. Cornucopia — Perhaps one of the most distinguishable signs of harvest is the cornucopia. You will see it around almost every fall filled with different fall vegetables. It represents the harvest plenty dating back to ancient times. Around Thanksgiving, you might notice it around in all sorts of decorations. You might want to think about getting one for your table this holiday in order to represent that you have plenty of food to eat.

6. Cranberry — It is originally known as crane berry due to its pink blossoms and drooping head which looks like the crane. The name slowly changed into cranberry, as it is now widely known. It was one of the staple food for the pilgrims which found a way to sweeten this fruit by adding maple sugar. Since then, cranberry sauce has been a faithful companion to any turkey dish during Thanksgiving.

7. Fall Clothing — You know that it is autumn when it is time to get the gloves and hat out. You will want to make sure that you are bundled up tight and wearing your favorite set of mittens. Make sure you have a pair of comfortable, warm boots that you can wear throughout the season.

8. Hot Cider — You might partake in some delicious beverages in the fall, including hot cider. Tea, hot chocolate, and cider are all symbols of the harvest time. When you want to have something warm to drink during the cool fall weather, you might turn to one of these staples. Nothing is more fun than taking a sip of a hot, steaming drink.

9. Plymouth Rock — This is considered the most famous landmarks in America as it is known as the first boulder on which the pilgrims first stepped when they arrived at Plymouth. It represents the true American values of faith, hope and freedom. It was indeed a significant symbol of Thanksgiving as this was the stepping stone of the pilgrims towards the establishment of a great nation we see today.

 10. Pumpkin — One of the most harvested foods in the fall is the pumpkin. The pumpkin has become a symbol of the fall and is included in many different kinds of harvest foods and decorations. It is one the symbols you will see the most around the fall season. They are also a major symbol of Halloween when pumpkin carving becomes a huge activity for kids and adults alike.

11. Scarecrow —The scarecrow is a symbol of harvest because it is known to scare away all the crows from a well-produced harvest. Scarecrows resemble humans, and they have been used in the harvest for hundreds of years as a known way to keep pesky animals from eating food that they are not supposed to. Even more than guarding vegetables from the harvest, they have become a symbol of the fall season.

12. Turkey — It wouldn’t be fall without the Thanksgiving turkey. Along with the rest of the harvest fruits and vegetables, turkey makes the perfect meal. No autumn would be complete without a well roasted turkey and your family sitting around the dinner table enjoying a home-cooked meal together. Having everyone together by the warmth of the fire might be the best part of the harvest season.

    Almost all of the popular symbols are already listed. All we need to do is to use these symbols to decorate the shop. If possible then just repaint the whole thing and if not then just decorate the place with some creative wall hangings and paintings. Do not go for any dark color and keep it as light as possible.

    Time to prepare for Fall. Decorate your shop with dry leaves and branches. You can use big vases and small glass containers and fill them up with dry leaves. It will give your shop the perfect fall season look. You can also stick these dry leaves to the walls in a creative way that will intrigue your clients.
