Do You Make These Mistakes in Graphic Design?
The title of this post sounds common, right? Maybe you have read some posts from other bloggers with this format. Anyway, I will not be talking about how to make headline here. It is about some common mistakes in graphic design that beginners often experience.
These mistakes are also part of my list of errors which I have encountered in past. I have no formal education in design, so from time to time I have to read books and articles related to this field to upgrade my knowledge. Every time I look back into my old files and spot my mistakes, I do my best to correct them.
I have here some of those things that will make your design ineffective.
Overcrowding – This happens when you try to fill every possible space in your design. You need to leave some space so that your design will not look messy.
Using default Photoshop layer style – If you think that colorful text effects are good, you should change your mind. Remember that simplicity is beauty. If you are using Photoshop to make your design, it is not necessary to apply a layer style on almost every layer.
Not putting bleed and margin – This is a very annoying mistake in print design. If you will not put margin and extra space on the four sides of your design, don’t be surprised if some letters that are near to the edge of design will be lost after printing.
Inserting low quality images – The first thing you would notice when the image is low quality is it’s blurred. If not blurred, it is pixilated. Photos are very important part of a design but if it is of low quality, it lost its impact.
Rainbow gradient background – Yeah, we love this. If I am not wrong, every graphic design has experienced this. You do not know what is the favorite color of your audience, right? So better use the rainbow gradient, but please, move on. Let go that rainbow gradient.
Enough for this few points now. I hope that this list could help you in some way. ^_^ If you have additional points to add, feel free to enter that as comment.

Thanks for these few important notes. I’d like to add “Using more than two types of fonts”. It makes the design looks really bad when the designer use too much types of notes, it will look a little bit messy.
