How To Create A Sweet Stand For A Wedding

Wedding favors have been given out to guests for many years as a thank you for attendance and best wishes from the happy couple.

Once upon a time, these favors might have involved a packet of 5 sugared almonds which symbolized health, wealth, long life, happiness and fertility. However, in recent times many couples have opted for something a little different.
As well as miniature bottles of spirits, personalized bars of chocolate and lottery tickets, modern couples are opting for sweet tables.

This American idea involves taking a pick and mix stand, filling it with sweets and allowing guests to help themselves.

However, in order to get the sweet table right, there are a few rules to follow:

1. Enough sweets

One major problem with sweet tables is when they run out. The benefit of giving everyone a gift bag of their own is being able to control the amount given out, however with a sweet table there is the problem of trusting people not to be too greedy and ordering enough.

Too few sweets makes the couple look mean and running out altogether looks extremely poor.

2. What to buy?

Buying sweets which will appeal to all guests is a tricky but not impossible task. Whilst many couples opt for their own favourites as well as trying to get a few “old favourites” into the mix, others go for a colour or time theme, picking the favourite sweets of their childhood for a 70’s, 80’s or 90’s retro theme.

3. Bag it up

The final question is how to serve the sweets. Of course they’ll be displayed but how should they be taken home. This is where many couples use their imagination, using personalized foil, crepe or paper bags which mean that the sweets act as a favor the guest can keep.
